  1. Mondelēz Hope Kitchen—from providing hot meals to developing healthy lifestyles
  2. Phase II Training Session for Local Nutrition Workers held in Zigui County, Hubei Province

Hubei, China, May 30, 2019— Recently, the Phase II Training Session for Local Nutrition Practitioners under "the Mondelēz Hope Kitchen – Nutrition & Healthy Lifestyles Program” (hereinafter referred to as 'the MHK Program') was held in Zigui County, Hubei Province. Co-sponsored by China Youth Development Foundation (CYDF) and Mondelēz Greater China, and guided by the Institute of Nutrition and Health, and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), this training session was held on the 10th anniversary of the launch of the MHK Program. During the two-day event, more than 100 student nutrition workers from Hubei and Guangxi province received training on nutrition and healthy lifestyles and relevant national policies and witnessed the MHK Program's achievements made by Hangtian Hope Primary School in Guizhou Town. Meanwhile, before the International Children's Day, volunteers from Mondelēz China and the students and teachers in the school jointly held a lively Healthy Campus Fun Games.

On the 10th anniversary of the MHK Program, Ms. Gu Lan, Director of the Hygiene and Health Department, CYDF, said: "It's my great honor to have been involved in the MHK Program from its beginning and witnessed its fruitful achievements with the joint efforts of multiple stakeholders. CYDF and Mondelēz China work together to improve nutrition for young children by making donations to schools, especially those in poverty-stricken rural areas, helping them build Mondelēz Hope Kitchens and Delicious Veggie Gardens, providing them with nutrition education, and advocating active play among them. We aim to explore public welfare models that can help improve students' nutrition and increase their health awareness. I'd like to extend our thanks to Mondelēz China and the Mondelēz International Foundation for their long-term support to the sustainable development of the MHK Program."

As the first company to sponsor the Hope Kitchen Program, Mondelēz focuses on serving the community and has invested USD47.50 million in 18 countries and regions across the globe to launch healthy lifestyle community collaboration programs. Meanwhile, it also helps local communities enrich their knowledge of nutrition, encourages people to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, and engage in more physical activities. Its efforts have brought positive influences on the lives of 1.5 million children. The MHK Program is an iconic public welfare project of Mondelēz China, underscoring its long-term commitments to giving back to the communities.

Mr. Joost Vlaanderen, President of Mondelēz Greater China, said, "As the new head of Mondelēz Greater China, I am amazed by such sophisticated programs for communities in China. With the painstaking efforts made by CYDF and China CDC over the past decade, the MHK Program has been touching and encouraging all of our employees. By launching the Program, we have made it easier for rural young children to develop healthy lifestyles and significantly enhanced Mondelēz China employees' sense of pride in their company."

At the Training Session for Local Nutrition Workers held in Zigui County, Zhang Qian, a researcher from the Student Nutrition Office, the Institute of Nutrition and Health, China CDC, shared information about the nutritional and health status of students in China as well as the latest national policies and measures. Zhang Qian said, "The nutritional status of young children in China has greatly improved since the 1980s, but malnutrition, anemia, and other health problems are still prominent among rural students, with overweight and obesity beginning to emerge. The MHK Program has made great contributions to the improvement of students' nutrition. I am ready to meet challenges together with frontline nutrition workers present today, to endeavor to help our children to grow healthily."

On the 10thanniversary of the MHK Program, employee volunteers from Mondelēz factories in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Suzhou joined the students in planting endemic naval orange trees in the Mondelēz Delicious Veggie Gardens. They hope that these fruit trees will bear tasty fruits to provide additional vitamins for the students. Mondelēz China and CYDF will continue to focus on the nutrition and health of young children and promote healthy lifestyles.
