Thousand Hope Kitchens Built in Four Years Benefiting Rural Students and Teachers
Yao Wen, Vice Secretary-General of CYDF, said, “When Hope Kitchen Project launched in 2009, it was to address the urgent needs of having hot meals among the students in poor rural areas. Since then, Hope Kitchens have provided standard kitchen facilities for 450,000 students in 1,000 schools in 28 provinces. The project has solved these students’ dining difficulties at schools, improved their meal quality, promoted hygiene habits, reduced the risk of digestive diseases and increased meal satisfactions. In the future, the project will strengthen nutrition education among teachers and students.”

As the co-founder of the Hope Kitchen project, Mondelez China will have 250 Mondelez Hope Kitchens in 19 provinces by the end of 2013, to benefit over 125,000 students. Since 2009, Mondelez China has donated cash and in-kind support of RMB 30 million for the development of the program.

Shawn Warren, President of Mondelez China, said, "From the 1st Hope Kitchen to the 1,000th; and from building Hope Kitchens, promoting nutrition knowledge, to opening more veggie gardens, we are very honored to initiate and witness the growth of the Hope Kitchen project together with CYDF. Mondelez Hope Kitchen demonstrated our company’s three CSR pillars – Nutrition Education, Active Play, and Growing Fresh Vegetables. It has helped to foster a strong and proud volunteer culture in Mondelez China. In the future, we will continue to work closely with CYDF to make the Hope Kitchen project even better and stronger."
