Kraft Foods China Awarded Rotary Club of Shanghai’s CSR Award

"Kraft Hope Kitchen" Awarded For Building Communities in China

(April 15 2011 -- Shanghai, China) Kraft Foods China was recently awarded the first “Rotary Leadership Award” by the Rotary Club of Shanghai for Building Communities in China with Kraft Hope Kitchen program. Kraft Foods China and its partner, the China Youth Development Foundation, received the award in Shanghai together.

"We appreciate the recognition of Rotary Club of Shanghai for our efforts in Kraft Hope Kitchen,” said Ms. Lorna Davis, President of Kraft Foods China. “We are greatly honored to share this award with China Youth Development Foundation (CYDF), our partner in Kraft Hope Kitchen which aims at improving food supply and nutrition for rural Chinese school children. Together with CYDF, we built 100 school kitchens in 100 rural Hope Schools in 2010. We will continue this effort to build another 50-100 Kraft Hope Kitchens in the next two years. ”

In August 2009, Kraft Foods China donated RMB 5.5 million to the China Youth Development Foundation to start the rural school kitchen building project called Kraft Hope Kitchen. To date, 100 Kraft Hope Kitchens have been built in 100 Hope Primary Schools in Anhui, Yunnan, Jilin, Hunan and Hebei province. These school kitchens have been put into use and benefiting more than 50,000 children and their teachers in the rural areas. “Kraft Foods China is one of our best partners,” said Mr. Tu Meng, Secretary General of CYDF. “We hope that more and more corporations can follow suit to pay attention to nutrition and diet conditions of the school kids in rural China. Together we can help children living in the rural areas to eat and grow better.”

Each Kraft Hope Kitchen is equipped with cooking facilities, refrigerators, disinfection cabinets and manuals for food safety. All the headmasters of the above mentioned 100 primary schools have received training in children nutrition and food safety offered by CYDF. In addition, Kraft Foods China has altogether donated products worth of RMB 3 million and 132 Kraft volunteers have offered 1,136 hours of free services to Kraft Hope Kitchen. Moreover, business partners of Kraft Foods China have also donated nearly RMB 1 million, which will be used to build more Kraft Hope Kitchens.

"Rotary Leadership Award” was initiated by Rotary Club of Shanghai and supported by AmCham, European Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai and the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce. The Awards are to honor and showcase outstanding individuals and programs that are making notable socially responsible achievements both in the city of Shanghai and throughout China. These achievements are in the areas of philanthropy, community outreach, volunteer programs, employee initiatives, environmental educational efforts and sustainable community development.
